  • Stay alert when practicing Gua Sha, always listen to what your skin is telling you

  • Throughout the treatment, always check how you or your clients are feeling

  • Gua Sha should always feel kind and pleasurable, not painful and uncomfortable

  • Always be prepared for the Sha and if treating others please inform them before the treatment

  • Hold the tool at a 10 - 45 degree angle

  • Always check the oil is present on the skin’s surface

Aftercare

  • Drink plenty of fluids (water or herbal tea) to flush out any toxins that may have been released from the tissues during the session.

  • Avoid smoking, drinking alcohol or any strong stimulants (tea, coffee and non-prescriptive drugs) for a minimum of 12 hours. Failure to adhere to these instructions could result in some dehydration and/or reintroducing toxins into the body.

  • Depending on the level of Sha on the skin, avoid direct heat, such as saunas and hot baths for a minimum of 1 – 12 hours, until it has completely disappeared.

  • Try to rest after a facial Gua Sha session, this allows the body to carry out its own healing process.

  • Avoid wearing make-up for at least 30 minutes – 6 hours. The length of time depends on the level of Sha on the skin.

  • Avoid sun bathing for 1 – 12 hours. The length of time depends on the level of Sha on the skin.

  • If you use SPF, it can be applied after the session.

  • These aftercare points are specific to facial Gua Sha and should not replace your usual aftercare.
